Middle Eastern Drumming
In class Scott explains the beautiful workings of the Egyptian Derbake and essentially how to drum for bellydancers; "The secret is reducing what seem like complex and challenging rhythmic forms into basic simpler ones." The class will cover hand positions used to produce the specific sounds, as well as how to communicate and count with the syllable's names. Uncover how fundamental combinations are used to compose rhythms like the Maqsoum, Masmoudi Saghir (Beledy), Saidi, Chiftitelli, Masmoudi Kebir, Malfouf, Ayyoub or Falahi. Count, hear and feel the rhythms as you play them on your drum. You'll be well on your way to drumming comfortably and confidently in no time!
This class is open to both men & women.
You do not need to own a drum to take this class. Drums will be available for rent for $5.00 per class at the studio. Rental drums are limited, so you can reserve your drum online when you register for class below by clicking on "Class w/ Drum Rental" in the Paypal drop box.
Drums are also available to rent on a monthly basis for $30.00 per month with a refundable $50.00 cash deposit. Drums are also available for purchase at the studio for $199.00. Again, drums are limited, so reserve your rental as soon as possible.

Join us for intro level rhythm & technique training for doumbek with Scott Sheffield of Baklava Bellydance. Arabic & Turkish rhythms as well as music with South Asian, Balkan & Gypsy influences will be covered. Great for dancers, drummers & anyone looking for something new!
